The Harness Horse Youth Foundation established in 1976, addresses youth education throughout Canada and the U.S.A. A non-profit organization, the Foundation continues to enlarge and improve its programs.
Mission Statement: To provide young people information and experiences with harness horses.
Harness Racing Youth League - summer camps at which kids between the ages of 11 and 13, are given the opportunity to learn from the ground up about horses including how to drive a racehorse. The week concludes with kids actually participating in mock races!
The creation of a booklet and video describing the careers available in the industry. Both were sent to more then 5000 high school guidance departments across the United States.
Harness Heroes Trading cards are produced each year and available for purchase as sets oras packs, for those hosting any type of youth event, such as field trips and scout troops.
Development of Studying The Standerbred - The Basic Stuff and The Technical Stuff; the first of which gives a very general overview of harness racing and the second of which delves deeper into various aspects of racehorse ownership and care.
Administration of scholarships designed specifically for students wishing to study equine and racing related fields. More than $400,000 has been awarded to students in the last 27 years.
